Dr Fei Wen Chen

Dr Chen has a key interest in liver disease, general gastroenterology and bowel cancer surveillance.

Dr Chen is a female gastroenterologist/hepatologist with admitting rights to both St George public and private hospitals. She performs endoscopic procedures in both St George public and private hospitals, as well as Hurstville private hospital and Alexandria Specialist Day Surgery. She graduated from the University of Sydney Medical School with Honours in 2008 and underwent her specialist training at several tertiary hospitals in Sydney including St George Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she did her liver transplant fellowship, looking after patients with advanced liver disease. She then completed her PhD at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research, studying the mechanism of fatty liver disease in lean individuals. Her study has pioneered our understanding in this area with a landmark paper published in the high impact journal, Hepatology   which has been highly cited. She has also been involved in many other research studies and published several papers throughout her career in various aspects of gastroenterology.

Dr Chen has a special interest in managing patients with chronic liver disease of various causes, as well as general gastroenterology, irritable bowel syndrome and bowel cancer surveillance. She can offer practical tips and advice in managing common gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, bloating, reflux, constipation, diarrhoea, rectal bleeding and COVID related gastrointestinal symptoms. Her background is Indonesian/Malaysian, and she speaks several languages including Indonesian, Malay and Mandarin. When not at work, Dr Chen enjoys spending quality time with her children, and she enjoys various outdoor activities and travel.
